The highlight of every place I go is their food, here is my list of the must try food in Ireland. Apart from experiencing the country with Shamrocker Tours, I did have the opportunity to try out some of the amazing things to eat and drink this country has to offer. Did I say opportunity? Please, my travels are literally planned around food. If you are interested in reading more about my all Ireland experience, check out my post Shamrocker All Ireland Rocker Tour Review. For now, let’s bring on the food.
Table of Contents
Irish Stew at The Hairy Lemon
The most traditional Irish food of them all, the Irish Stew. Beef (or mutton) with potatoes, carrots, onions and herbs give this dish a unique flavor with all the necessary ingredients and warmth during the cold months.
Irish stew can be eaten almost everywhere in the country, THE HAIRY LEMON in Dublin is a great choice. Although it’s a bit touristy and on the pricier side but apart from great food, this restaurant’s instagrammable interiors and friendly staff is an experience worth experiencing in Ireland.
Guinness at O’Connells
Every time I mention ‘Dublin’, the first reaction I get is always ‘Guinness’. One cannot go to Ireland and not have their signature dark beer. I doubt there is any pub, bar or restaurant all around Ireland which doesn’t have it on tap. The Guinness in Ireland definitely tastes different, good different, and can be enjoyed at any time of the day. They say that Guinness tastes different in every bar in Ireland, the flavor depends on the age and maintenance of the keg system, I couldn’t really notice that. So not really a must try food in Ireland, but a must try drink in Ireland for sure.
Guinness is available in every pub in the country but if there was one place I have to recommend, it’s ‘O’Connell’s Bar’, mostly for the laid back vibes at their Beer Garden and the fact that this is also the filming location for the music video of Ed Sheeran’s Galway Girl.
Irish Coffee at The Brazen Head
Mix 2 great drinks and you get one epic cocktail, an Irish beverage that is famous all around the world. It is made with coffee, ofcourse, whiskey, cream and sugar. There is quite a kick to it so it’s not really a substitute for a morning coffee, or is it?
A great place to try Irish Coffee is at Irelands oldest pub, THE BRAZEN HEAD. Since 1198, this pub has been serving locals and foreigners alike, so enjoy a warm cup of Irish Coffee with a piece of history in Dublin.
Pizza at The Dough Bros
Located in the heart of Galway, THE DOUGH BROS has been included among the top 100 restaurants in Ireland by Sunday Times. This is not your ordinary pizza place, the bros use all local ingredients for ridiculously delicious pizzas and also add an Irish twist to it. The interiors of this place are also quite interesting, Irish humour on the walls and 90’s geek decorations on display, the TMNT pizza delivery box and a sega mega drive were my favourites, *NERD ALERT*. They even had signed merchandise from New York’s JOE’S PIZZA, a place I visited just a few months ago, read all about that trip on 7 Days In New York. The Dough Bros was the highlight of my stay in Galway, so definitely it’s a must try food in Ireland.
Burrito at Boojum
Burrito? Must try food in Ireland? I know what you are thinking but hear me out. Every single google search for ‘must try food in Ireland’ had this place on the list and I can’t stress enough how good is their food. BOOJUM is a classic burrito joint with outlets all over Ireland. I tried this place in the beginning of my trip and I ended up eating there 3 more times before heading back because it was just too smacking good. Mexican is one of my top favourite cuisines and I highly approve this place. I might just visit Ireland again, exclusively for Boojum.
Irish Breakfast at Beanhive
Take a full English breakfast and make it even more epic by adding boxty bread and black (or white) pudding, you’ve got yourself a full Irish Breakfast. This meal will keep you going for hours so make sure to have this before going sightseeing.
I tried the full Irish Breakfast at a place close to the Trinity College called BEANHIVE and I highly recommend this hearty meal there.
Ice Cream at Murphy’s
MURPHY’S ICE CREAM is a very famous food company from Dingle, they use cattle from County Kerry to make unusual flavors such as ‘Dingle Sea Salt’ and ‘Irish Brown Bread’. Give it a swirl *pun intended* and let me know what you think.
Falafel Sandwich at Umi Falafel
For all the vegetarians and falafel lovers out there, UMI FALAFEL is a chain of outlets which have made it to my list of must try food in Ireland. When a die-hard meat lover like me recommends a vegetarian place, you know it is definitely something. They are located all over Ireland and serve delicious falafels with a variety of sauces.

Shamrocker All Ireland Rocker Tour Review - Please Stamp My Passport · September 6, 2019 at 7:33 pm
[…] Ireland has a lot to offer in terms of history, culture, food and extremely friendly people, so I would highly recommend exploring different counties. It is also home to Game Of Thrones, among many other shows and movies whose filming locations can be seen all around the country. My 7 days with Shamrocker Adventures All Ireland Rocker were willed with fun, laughter, nature, food and absolute ‘craic’, I learned a lot about the country, made some amazing friends and drowned myself in Guinness. Speaking of Guinness, make sure to visit the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin and also checkout my post on Must Try Food In Ireland. […]
